Find out more about the Oration Program here. About the 2022 Orator Dr Natalia Trayanova This year's Orator is renowned international scientist, Dr Natalia Trayanova. Dr Trayanova is the Murray B. Sachs Professor of Biomedical Engineering at the Johns Hopkins University (USA). Learn more about Dr Trayanova and the Oration in the video above. About the Oration Engineering your heart’s healthImagine a future where a cardiac arrest could be predicted in advance and heart disease treatments tailored to each individual. Research by our Orator, Professor Natalia Trayanova could soon see that future become a reality. By combining biological data and machine learning, Professor Trayanova’s team are developing technology to create ‘digital heart twins’. These virtual replicas of the heart can be used to forecast progress of heart disease; estimate the risk of adverse events; and predict treatment response to inform clinical decisions. In this year’s oration, Professor Trayanova will explore how the engineering of physics-based models and individual biological data can be used to improve the lives of people with heart disease. The Bionics Institute 2022 Award for Excellence in Medical Device Innovation The annual Bionics Institute Award for Excellence in Medical Device Innovation recognises an Australian individual who, through innovation, has made a significant impact on the medical device ecosystem with the aim of improving human health. To celebrate the achievements of the winner, the Innovation award will be presented at the Bionics Institute 2022 Graeme Clark Oration Dinner in Melbourne on 12 July, with a $5000 prize and associated publicity.
