The Bionics institute is seeking individuals who are between 50-65 years of age and have standard hearing to take part in a study.

Our tinnitus research study aims to develop an objective test to measure tinnitus severity. Tinnitus, also known as ‘ringing in the ears’, involves the perception of sounds when there is no related external source.

Once we know how to measure tinnitus objectively, we can move forward into seeing which treatments actually work. While we are collecting data from individuals with tinnitus, we also need data from people who do not experience tinnitus.

What is involved?

  • A single 1 to 2-hour visit at our facility in East Melbourne (384-388 Albert Street)
  • Wearing a brain imaging cap which uses near-infrared light. You will not be able to feel anything and the cap is very light with a velcro strap fastened under your chin (as shown in the image above).

Reimbursement

Participants will be reimbursed $20 for their time and travel. Free parking is available.

Eligibility

To be eligible to participate you must be over 50, have no tinnitus, no known neurological conditions and do not use hearing aids.
